My Secret to Photographing Kids in Their Natural State

A lot of people take their kids to the park and then have a difficult time trying to find a place where they can take good pictures. Portraits are not always about being formal or serious, but rather capturing the natural beauty of your child at play. In this blog post, I will show you some ways that you can get those natural photographs without any fuss.

It's not easy. Kids are unpredictable, and they don't always cooperate. But with the right approach, you can get them to do what you need them to do - without making it seem like a chore for either of you. And that will show up in your photos!

Here are some of my tips:

  1. When photographing children I recommend spending time with them before starting to take pictures - get to know who they are and what interests them.

  2. Get down to their level, which is usually at eye level with them

  3. Give something fun to do or an object that will occupy them while you take the picture (think bubbles, jumping rope).

  4. Try not talk too much when taking pictures because they will get bored. Let them be themselves!

  5. Creating photos of children can be challenging - but there is one guaranteed way to get a good photo. Just let them act naturally, and take pictures of their spontaneity.

  6. Dressing kids too formally for events can make them uncomfortable and so in order to get more natural portraits, it is important to dress them in comfortable clothes.

I hope you’ve found these tips helpful and that they will make capturing kids in their natural state a little easier.
